Aerosensor was founded by former Formula 1 aerodynamicist Dr. Barney Garrood PhD, to create a portable aero performance optimisation system for road, track and time-trial cyclists.

The result of 4 years of research and development, and over 180 design iterations, Aerosensor is a completely new aerodynamic probe design offering unprecedented accuracy in real world drag measurement.

Over the course of development two other products have been developed to measure body position and lap time.

  • Aerobody non-contact body position sensor with 1mm accuracy.
  • Aerodrome wireless lap trigger with sub-millisecond accuracy.

The Aerosensor Cycling System allows simultaneous measurement of body position and aerodynamic drag, accurately synchronising that to track or road position. This offers an unprecedented level of detail and accuracy in aerodynamic optimisation at an affordable price.

Together our devices offer a complete portable aero test system, wirelessly reporting performance data in real-time to the cyclist.

Meet The Team

Dr. Barney Garrood, Founder and CEO
Our founder and CEO Dr. Barney Garrood (PhD) has 20 years of experience in Formula 1 in the wind tunnel and on the track at FIA Formula One World Championship winning teams including Ferrari, Mercedes and BrawnGP. As a keen cyclist Barney wanted to apply his experience in Formula 1 aerodynamic track measurement to cycling aerodynamics. The challenges are very different but the underlying physics identical. After four years of development, the Aerosensor Cycling System (ACS) enables optimisation and maintenance of aerodynamic performance in the real world. Barney is a husband and father who finds peace on his tractor mower in the garden.
Joachim Ritter, Investor
Joachim Ritter, velodrome track cyclist and aerosensor investor
Joachim Ritter is Chairman and founder of European security group with 5000+ employees. He is an experienced Entrepreneur, growing companies from start up to 100M+. Joachim is the Danish Elite track sprint record holder and Champion.  He is also a World Master track sprint record breaker. Joachim adds husband, father and dog walker to his list of achievements.
Tim Greaves, Investor
Tim Greaves is an experienced and effective entrepreneur providing positive, practical, and rational advice. He built a successful fibre-optic business and sold it to a NASDAQ company. He has continued to develop a diverse group of businesses with a wide field of interests, including communications technology, motor sports and whisky. Tim, currently provides his son’s businesses, Greaves 3D and Tau Homes alongside Oscar Propulsion, with advisory services as an independent shareholder. When not busy with his many projects, Tim can be found enjoying a dram of whisky.
Sir Chris Hoy, Investor & Performance Advisor
Sir Chris Hoy is a 6 x Olympic and 11 x World Champion track cyclist. He retired from competitive cycling in 2013 and became involved in car racing. In 2016 he became the first Summer Olympic medallist to compete at Le Mans. Sir Chris Hoy was awarded an MBE in 2005, and he received a knighthood in 2009 (at the same time his mother was made MBE for her services to healthcare!).
Lana Davies, Administrator

Lana Davies became a valuable member of the Aero Sensor team in August 2023. Bringing a wealth of experience as an administrator and office manager, she has seamlessly adapted to her dynamic and challenging role within the company. Outside of work, Lana balances her life as a mother of three with a variety of interests. She is a keen participant in Spin classes and in rare moments of relaxation, can be found enjoying a good book with a glass of wine.

Adam Garai, Software Engineer

Adam Garai, a dedicated Software Engineer, joined our team at Aero Sensor in February 2024. With an MSc from UCL and a BSc from Warwick in Computer Science, Adam brings a solid academic foundation to his role. His passion form both experimenting with hardware and building new software makes him a perfect fit for our innovative projects at Aero Sensor. Beyond technology, Adam finds joy in the outdoors, often embarking on long hikes to unwind.
